Some of them developed sickle cell to give them immunity as a heterozygote to malaria. They have dark enough skin to protect them from UV but how recently or how much that evolved is an open question. African isn’t a race and every population has different mixtures of adaptations. Some are biological and some technological. Masai are very thin and tall and that helps in the heat. Bedouin use layers of loose cloth to keep cool.
