Select one human impact and discuss the following:
a. Describe the major environmental insult and how does it affect populations and communities.
b. Discuss two ways in which humans are trying to lessen these impacts and describe the results.Best reply by Stuart:
Welll. Emmissions are devestating, and it’s basically been proven that this is the case. Most of these emmissions come from industrialized countries i.e. North America and Europe although China as well.
It effects the ozone, the air we breath and the water we drink, and causes cancer.
The Kyoto Protocol was a major work put forward to stem the pollutants. But, industrialized countries arent taking it seriously, and the US and China are making no major committments (because doing so would mean spending money, and thus lower competitiveness). Companies would have to increase their prices to pay for the environmental controls. But if countries all agreed to do the same, this wouldnt be an issue. However, its highly unlikely. Soo things arent looking too good for our planet, but we can always hope.Read the original question here

B: Increased globalization has a negative impact on the environment, and the international community is working to address these issues.

What effects does climate and environment have on how the oil spills are controlled or contained?
Filed under More Green IdeasJul 5im doing a class project and i want to know how does the climate affect how oil spills are controlled.
Best reply by La Chaparra:
i think the climate makes it harder to contain and control the oil spill. the climate and environment are both very surprising due to being able to change at any second without warning and uncontrollable so that almost anything can make the oil spill get either worde and spread even more or better by well…idk for sure but.. basically i think the climate and weather make it harder and dont help.

please help me find some statistics/facts about how gas powered cars affect our environment in a negative way. please include your source. thanks!
Best reply by Wingman:
Driving a car is the most air polluting act an average citizen commits. Air pollution is not a good idea for a variety of reasons, large and small. The right ideas for remediation of environmental degradations involve unselfish and compassionate behavior, a scarce commodity. The right ideas involve long-term planning, conservation and a deep commitment to preserving the natural world. Without a healthy natural environment, there will be few or no healthy humans. To understand air pollution you can consider a simple schematic that divides a big problem into components.
1. Local effects -e.g. poisoning humans breathing bad air.
2. Regional effects – fallout from airborne pathogens – infections, particles, chemicals.
3. Global effects – changing interactions between the atmosphere and sun, weather effects, effects on plants and oceans.

This one below, with all of the new roads being built, if it is paved over, plants cannot grow and provide oxygen to breath.
Infrastructure
Aside from industries, one of the most visible effects the automobile has had on the world is the huge increase in the amount of surfaced roads. For example, between 1921 and 1941, the United States spent US$40 billion on roads, increasing the amount of surfaced road from 387,000 miles (619,000 kilometers) to over 1,000,000 miles (1.6 million kilometers) which does not even take into account road widening.[2]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Effects_of_the_automobile_on_societies
Motor vehicle accidents are attributed to 37.5% of accidental deaths in the United States, making them the country’s leading cause of accidental death.[

How does the environment affect the organism, and how does an organism affect the environment? Have we humans have good or bad effects on the environment?
Best reply by LAlawMedMBA:
The environment affects the organisms in its ecosystem. An ecosystem is a natural unit consisting of all plants, animals and micro-organisms (biotic factors) in an area functioning together with all of the non-living physical (abiotic) factors of the environment.
Central to the ecosystem concept is the idea that living organisms are continually engaged in a highly interrelated set of relationships with every other element constituting the environment in which they exist. Eugene Odum, one of the founders of the science of ecology, stated: “Any unit that includes all of the organisms (ie: the “community”) in a given area interacting with the physical environment so that a flow of energy leads to clearly defined trophic structure, biotic diversity, and material cycles (ie: exchange of materials between living and nonliving parts) within the system is an ecosystem.”
Organisms have some impact upon the environment in which they live. For example, beavers produce dams that block streams and create ponds; bears raid bee hives by tearing open tree trunks and sometimes gorging on an entire honeycomb; woodpeckers remove beetles and grubs from tree bark.
Humans have caused mostly bad effects upon natural environments. Human overpopulation and overdevelopment have depleted environmental resources, primarily through air pollution (e.g., greenhouse gases), water pollution (e.g., phosphate detergent eutrophication and algal blooms), soil erosion (caused by runoff from farmland), and deforestation (from slashing and burning to open land to agriculture). Humans have caused the destruction of ecosystems and massive extinction of wildlife.

And how a change in the environment or a move to a different, can affect the musical inspiration of a person?
Best reply by robertminidriver:
If you are speaking of creating new music, a change of environment will tend to give you new perspectives on life which will stoke your creative fire.
We need to experience life in order to recreate the beauty we sense in our environment. And, diversity, newness and uniqueness contribute greatly to this process.
