How do you feel about scientists holding an emergency summit on climate change?
Filed under Million Green IdeasMar 17Question by Dana1981: How do you feel about scientists holding an emergency summit on climate change?
“Scientists are to hold an emergency summit to warn the world’s politicians they are being too timid in their response to global warming.Climate experts from across the world will gather in Copenhagen next month to agree a stark message to policy makers, which they hope will break the political deadlock on efforts to curb rising temperatures. The meeting follows “disturbing” studies that suggest global warming could strike harder and faster than expected.
Katherine Richardson, a marine biologist at the University of Copenhagen, who is organising next month’s event, said: “This is not a regular scientific conference. This is a deliberate attempt to influence policy.”

Now for all you conspiracy theorists out there, scientists have nothing to gain monetarily from such a summit. They already have no trouble getting research grants to study climate change, and influencing political policy at this point does not benefit them in any way.
What are your thoughts on this emergency summit?

Answer by John Terry
I think scientists should stick to science and not engage in lobbying. And I think that the longer we go with 1998 as the “warmest year” since the end of the Little Ice Age, the more foolish AGW proponents look.
Bottom line, what they’re afraid of is that if CO2 emissions keep going up but the temperature keeps not going up, people will realize that the two are only loosely related and support for their agenda will wane.

How do scientists feel Global warming will affect the ocean levels? Do you believe Global warming is a reality or not?Best answer:
Answer by jpm896
Global warming is a reality and will cause a rise in sea level. The Earth’s average air temperatures as a whole continue to increase, in some places more than others. Some places stay about the same or even decrease in temperaure.Add your own answer in the comments!

I am horrible at biology and my teacher has never helped anyone. He just skims over the material and hardly ever uses the textbook. I’ve been going over past regents and I still don’t feel that confident. Please help. Thank you.

I had to take the living biology regents exam a few years ago. I hate ny lol. Well basically just go to http://regentsprep.org/ then look through the lessons and take practice tests. Also type in google past living enviroment regents exams. They always ask the same questions. So as long as you can answer most of them you’ll be set

I want to help the Earth for the people of the future but how would I go about doing that?
I recycle, I reuse and I reduce but what else can I do? I don’t feel like I’m contributing enough. I don’t want to be known as the douche bag who never did anything for the Earth. Yes, I realize I’m on a computer. Yes, I do feel stupid right now. But it’s for the Earth.
Tell me, fellow YahooAnswerians, what can a 16 year old do to help the environment?
Thank you!

We’ve been learning in science lately how human waste and carelessness impacts the environment. It makes me feel so guilty. What are some practical, everyday things I can do?
Best reply by ranger_co_1_75:
The black pill will remove almost all of your imprint, but that is really drastic.
Just don’t knowingly throw away things that can be recycled, don’t encourage the destruction of critical habitat, or support polluting countries like China and India by purchasing Chinese or Indian made products until Chinese and Indian Factories clean up their pollution.

I planned on starting to recycle every day items (cans, paper, bottles, etc) around my house instead of being wasteful and throwing them away. This was just so I could feel like I was helping the environment out a little bit. However, I wanted to know just how useful one person’s monthly recyclables are to helping the environment. Like 2 full garbage bags worth per month.
Best reply by JWrightus:
The obvious answer is…it depends. It depends how much of what item you’re recycling.
Recycling plastic is arguably the most important recycling you can do in terms of environmental impact because plastics are not biodegradable. They never decompose. Furthermore, plastics are petroleum-based–they come from the same raw materials we use for fuel.
Recycling plastic has at least three benefits: It keeps non-biodegradable materials out of landfills and waterways, it provides already-existing materials for packaging, and it reduces the amount of raw materials extracted from the ground.
Having said that, EVERYTHING you recycle has a large positive impact on the environment. Even just a month’s worth!

How do liberals feel about the Environment? How do they feel about improving the environment?
Filed under More Green IdeasJun 26How do liberals feel about improving the environment at the cost of big companies??
Should the national defense get cut down some?
How do you feel about marriage and divorce laws??
How about criminal laws?
Best reply by tonalc2:
You’ve asked a lot of very general questions.
1. Not all liberals are environmentalists. Perhaps you should ask how environmentalists feel about the environment vs. big business.
2. Not all liberals are for cutting the national defense budget. Some of us think it is completely bloated and could be streamlined (as does Secretary of Defense Robert Gates).
3. Sorry, this is really too broad a question.
4. Again, way too broad.
