Why did Bob Barr praise Al Gore? Can you believe Barr said Gore energy plans were very good?
Filed under Million Green IdeasMay 8Question by I love Obama: Why did Bob Barr praise Al Gore? Can you believe Barr said Gore energy plans were very good?
In 10 years a lot can happen, but I truly doubt we will be using solar power in the majority of homes and businesses. It just sounds like a bunch of pandering. I want to build me a solar power home with a rain water filter, I would love to live off the grid. So, I put my money where my mouth was and bought stocks in a solar power company and …. they went out of business. Al Gore is pandering and I can not believe anyone would vote for Barr after this.Best answer:

Funny, next time buy stock in a solar power company that works in the sunshine state or any other southwest state. They are doing more business and growing faster than they can handle.

Why do people think criticism Al Gore amounts to good criticism of climate change?
Filed under Million Green IdeasApr 22Question by Maria: Why do people think criticism Al Gore amounts to good criticism of climate change?
What he does, believes and says is completely irrelevant to whether climate change is real. This ad homonim attack is really pointless and just makes you look like an idiot.
A person’s motivation only applies to their actions. He didn’t cause global warming nor did he create the hypothesis. What he is like is completely immaterial.Best answer:

The same reason that ALL the “skeptical” arguments here are so poor. They have little else, the advancing juggernaut of scientific data and understanding is mowing down their more serious arguments one by one, and they’re really desperate.Take the twenty or so posts about the one sentence error about the exact date when the Himalayan glaciers will totally disappear, while simply ignoring by the proven (and much more important) fact that they ARE disappearing, and threatening the water supply of millions of people.
By me, that’s even worse, since it masquerades as “science”. But I suppose it’s a matter of taste.
EDIT – The inflammatory rhetoric below is also enlightening. When people’s arguments have been refuted by the facts, all that’s left is to appeal to emotion. It’s why “skeptics” want to abandon science in favor of a debate, with two people behind lecterns flinging rhetoric at each other.
EDIT 2 – From below: “Personally, I do not condone the use of inaccuracies being used what I would call quite recklessly to frighten people into following a course of action.”
I completely agree. But I’d also apply it to people who make mountains out of molehills, trying to cast doubt on the underlying truth. Extremists on either side do not point the way to understanding.

What are some schools with good environmental science or ecology graduate programs?
Filed under Million Green IdeasApr 15Question by Angel: What are some schools with good environmental science or ecology graduate programs?
I am looking for a university that has a good graduate program in environmental science or ecology. I live in Virginia and would like to stay on the east coast but I would move just about anywhere for the right program. I don’t know if I will be able to get into UVA so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. ThanksBest answer:
Answer by name
Most of the top schools are on the West Coast, except Yale. However, you should look at U of Georgia and U of Maryland which have good rankings and programs. (links below)Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

Question by George N: What is a good science fair project for environmental engineering?
Science fair projects are meant to solve problems, not to show how something works. I’d like to do a science fair project in the category of engineering using my LEGO Mindstorms robotics kit. The judges at the science fair especially like environmental projects, so I want to do an environmental engineering project. An example would be “What alternative energy source is the most efficient: water, wind, or geothermal?” Something like that would be good. If you have any ideas, I would greatly appreciate to see them.Best answer:

Put a solar panel on the robot. Use the controller for the robot to make it move around using the suns energy. Say this should be the use of energy for cars, making them run by electricity. If they ask about nighttime, give the example of a glow-in-the-dark magnet. It gathers the energy it needs during the day. uses it at night. Also use the example about the terrible oil spill in the gulf of mexico thats going on right now. Say that would be abolished if we were to use an alternative energy source for our cars and machines, aka the suns energy.Don’t know much about enviormental engineering, but I think this falls into that catagory. Not very original but good examples for it are here. What do you think? Answer below!

Wind power is one of the fastest growing forms of alternative energy in the world. More and more, wind power mills are seen in the countryside, in large wind farms and for the most part, away from city life. But a new form of wind power is now designed to work in an urban environment. VOA producer Zulima Palacio has the story. Mill Arcega narrates.
