Question by Cool Breeze: Can anyone suggest some good schools for environmental studies?

I am planning on returning to school in the next few years to study either environmental engineering or environmental law (not sure which just yet). Can anybody suggest some good schools for either of these fields?

I already have a few schools in mind, but I am fishing for suggestions I may not have considered. I live in Virginia, USA but am willing to move anywhere if need be.

Right now (for law) I am looking into William & Mary, Lewis and Clark College, Appalachian School of Law, University of Oregon, and University of Colorado. Any other thoughts from those who know?

Question by Alec Beattie: Is Applied Physics a good field to study for green technology and alternative energy?

How employable would someone with a Doctorate in Applied Physics be, in the alternative energy/green technology field?

What kind of jobs would such a person have?

    Best answer:

    Answer by Charles
YES! ABSOLUTELY!!! The application of physics is what inventors practice on a daily basis. As for the type of job, that would mainly be design engineer. One thing that you can do is think out of the box. You should delve into the practice critical thinking. You can do is apply the use of neodyme magnets for turning a generator, ask yourself questions such as “what would this do in a vacuum environment”? Will it increase the energy output? What natural kinetic energies can be used to turn a generator? What size unit would power a home? Is there any electronic pollution and if there is can I convert that pollution into etheric energy?

Question: How does meat consumption contribute to rainforest depletion?

Answer: The United States imports roughly 200 million pounds of beef from Central America every year. Aside from the fuel used in transport, grazing land is needed for all of these animals. Where does all that land come from in a densely forested region? The answer: from clear-cutting forests and rainforest A Smithsonian study estimates that the necessity for more grazing land means that every minute of every day, a land area equivalent to seven football fields is destroyed in the Amazon basin(1).
For each hamburger that originated from animals raised on rainforest land, approximately 55 square feet of forest have been destroyed. And its not just the rainforest. In the United States, more than 260 million acres of forest have been clear-cut for animal agriculture (2). With increased per capita meat consumption, and an ever growing population, we can only expect to see more deforestation in the future.
