What do they expect solar cell efficiency to increase to and what impact would this have on the use of solar?
Filed under Million Green IdeasMar 24Question by Clemma: What do they expect solar cell efficiency to increase to and what impact would this have on the use of solar?
Currently, solar cells are about 30% efficient. How can nanotechnology may change this in the future? What do they expect solar cell efficiency to increase to and what impact would this have on the use of solar cells?Best answer:
Answer by Vonnie
There is more than one type of solar technology and it is getting more efficient all the time. All I know for sure is my PV system generates more energy than I was quoted and I will break even in about 6 years so I’ll have about 18 years of free energy which will save me well over $ 50K. That’s efficient enough for me.I came accross a new, proven and tested home made wind power system and solar power system which eliminates our electricity bills. It was written by a Renewable energy enthusiasts Michael Harvey the diy called Earth4energy. You can get your copy to save energy and help environment while eliminating your power bills. Q&A: Why is Al Gore now trying to say the oil spill will impact our environment?
Filed under Million Green IdeasJan 28Question by Zaphod: Why is Al Gore now trying to say the oil spill will impact our environment?
When will these people stop spreading lies.
Rush says nature will take care of the oil spill on its own – who are you going to believe?
Rush doesn’t earn his living lying to the public like Al Gore does.Best answer:
Answer by Shamus
The oil will impact our environment. I don’t know what Rush said, I didn’t hear it, so I cannot comment on it, and most liberals tend to quote him incorrectly. But this will hurt our environment. The blame is square on the posers head in the white house.Know better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

Select one human impact and discuss the following:
a. Describe the major environmental insult and how does it affect populations and communities.
b. Discuss two ways in which humans are trying to lessen these impacts and describe the results.Best reply by Stuart:
Welll. Emmissions are devestating, and it’s basically been proven that this is the case. Most of these emmissions come from industrialized countries i.e. North America and Europe although China as well.
It effects the ozone, the air we breath and the water we drink, and causes cancer.
The Kyoto Protocol was a major work put forward to stem the pollutants. But, industrialized countries arent taking it seriously, and the US and China are making no major committments (because doing so would mean spending money, and thus lower competitiveness). Companies would have to increase their prices to pay for the environmental controls. But if countries all agreed to do the same, this wouldnt be an issue. However, its highly unlikely. Soo things arent looking too good for our planet, but we can always hope.Read the original question here

How big of on impact would switching from fossil fuels to hemp ethanol have on the environment?
Filed under More Green IdeasAug 10Couldn’t this single switch reduce the impact people put on the environment astronomically? Also to start using hemp for paper rather than all the pollution and deforestation from using timber?
Best reply by Frank:
Where do you think hemp grows? The use of ethanol that is made from corn has already been a problem. People are cutting down trees to grow corn, and the price of corn has spiked, making this dietary staple too expensive for many people in poorer countries to afford.
If we convert more corn farms (or wheat farms, or whatever) to hemp farms, people will go hungry.

What are the ways to mitigate the effects of industries on the environment?
Filed under More Green IdeasJul 15What can the government, the industries’ leaders or the public do to lessen the impact of industries on the environment?
Thanks
Best reply by oikos:
You need a carrot & stick approach. Make discharge of wastes into the environment with severe-enough penalties and develop a use for the “waste” product.

None of the above. The best is “Protection of the environment is being used as an agrument for globalization.”
