Question by Janus: What makes a region suitable for solar power?
I live in the Persian Gulf region and I often hear that this region is suitable for solar power generation. What measures are critical to knowing whether a region is suitable for solar power? Is the UV index a good gauge? What about cloud cover and dust cover?Best answer:
Answer by assethole
You need to have lots of direct sunlight and weather must be cool for maximum efficiency and long life of Solar PV.Solar parabolic you need lots of sunshine and the hotter the better, as the sun boils water to make steam, which is done in a microboiler. Then the pressure runs a steam engine.

Is algae a second generation or third generation biofuel, and what makes it so?
Filed under Million Green IdeasJan 18Question by * * * * * MAXIMUM MULLET *******: Is algae a second generation or third generation biofuel, and what makes it so?
I’m reading up on biofuels and am confused as to whether algae is a second or third generation biofuel.Best answer:
Answer by Mary Ann
Algae is a Third Generation Biofuel.Algae fuel, also called algal fuel, oilgae[1], algaeoleum or third generation biofuel [2] , is a biofuel from algae. Compared with second generation biofuels, algae are high-yield high-cost (30 times more energy per acre than terrestrial crops) feedstocks to produce biofuels. Since the whole organism uses sunlight to produce lipids, or oil, algae can produce more oil in an area the size of a two-car garage than an entire football field of soybeans.[3]
Every drop of oil on earth comes from millions of years of buildup from algae and other natural residue… buried, compressed, and eventually drilled–supplying our energy since the late 1800s.
Now, consider that we’re going to deplete, in less than 300 years, what took hundreds of millions of years to form. And with the inevitable global depletion of oil, alternative forms of energy are destined to emerge.
Algae, ironically, is one of them…
Research at leading universities suggests that algae could supply enough fuel to meet all of America’s transportation needs in the form of biodiesel… using a scant 0.2% of the nation’s land.
In fact, enough algae can be grown to replace all transportation fuels in the U.S. on only 15,000 square miles, or 4.5 million acres of land.
That’s about the size of Maryland.

We’ve been learning in science lately how human waste and carelessness impacts the environment. It makes me feel so guilty. What are some practical, everyday things I can do?

The black pill will remove almost all of your imprint, but that is really drastic.
Just don’t knowingly throw away things that can be recycled, don’t encourage the destruction of critical habitat, or support polluting countries like China and India by purchasing Chinese or Indian made products until Chinese and Indian Factories clean up their pollution.
