Question by SYDNEY 2055: Why do people believe the government can create alternative energy?

Instead of begging the government to create alternative energy, we should all get enginneering degrees and develope alternative energy ourselves. We might tragically learn that its harder than the movies and activists make it out to be.

Nothing worth achieving is ever easy. But the government can be a significant impetus. It was a government project, after all, theat produced the first A-bomb.

Question by Maria: Why do people think criticism Al Gore amounts to good criticism of climate change?

What he does, believes and says is completely irrelevant to whether climate change is real. This ad homonim attack is really pointless and just makes you look like an idiot.
A person’s motivation only applies to their actions. He didn’t cause global warming nor did he create the hypothesis. What he is like is completely immaterial.

The same reason that ALL the “skeptical” arguments here are so poor. They have little else, the advancing juggernaut of scientific data and understanding is mowing down their more serious arguments one by one, and they’re really desperate.

Take the twenty or so posts about the one sentence error about the exact date when the Himalayan glaciers will totally disappear, while simply ignoring by the proven (and much more important) fact that they ARE disappearing, and threatening the water supply of millions of people.

By me, that’s even worse, since it masquerades as “science”. But I suppose it’s a matter of taste.

EDIT – The inflammatory rhetoric below is also enlightening. When people’s arguments have been refuted by the facts, all that’s left is to appeal to emotion. It’s why “skeptics” want to abandon science in favor of a debate, with two people behind lecterns flinging rhetoric at each other.

EDIT 2 – From below: “Personally, I do not condone the use of inaccuracies being used what I would call quite recklessly to frighten people into following a course of action.”

I completely agree. But I’d also apply it to people who make mountains out of molehills, trying to cast doubt on the underlying truth. Extremists on either side do not point the way to understanding.

Question by postshift: Climate Change: What should people do to survive the worst case senario?

Lets pretend humanity is unable to prevent climate change and the worst case senario happens. What can people do to survive, adapt and thrive in the coming changed earth?

    Best answer:

    Answer by knowlegible monkey
watch the patterns, and prepare , stock up on items in case of long long winters or huge storms, like hurricanes and typhoons. I don’t think one can truly prepare for the climate change, it is un predictable and hard to understand. I feel that you must have to adapt to the current conditions and just prepare for what ever earth throws are way.

Question by Prefering Anonomous: When will people realise that climate change will kill us?

According to the film The Age Of Stupid if we do nothing about climate change (that is carrying on like we are now) by 2015 then by 2050 the human race will suffer extinction because of natural disatsers such as Hurricane Katrina and flooding and drought. So why won’t people take any notice? Ignorance will kill us, and turning to God to save you won’t help in the long run.

    Answer by Maxwell’s Hammer
Because people are stupid and they tend to disbelieve things that they don’t WANT to believe.

Question by Jedi: Do people really believe that Al Gore believes in man made Global Warming?

Someone answered my previous question using Al Gore as a reliable source for man made global warming. Don’t you think the biggest Global Warming pusher would not use private jets, yachts and limo’s? He is a joke! He has two private jets. How much carbon is he spewing out into the air? Recognize the real from the fake. Don’t just listen to someone, see how they live and if their actions back up their words. Get back to me when you see whats really going on.

    Answer by Cheezass H. Kriest
OK, I give up. You win. If AlGore is the MANBEARPIG, then I guess all Science has been a fraud !
I heard that it’s the Sun causing all the warming. I agree. The Sun is getting cooler from all the sunspots. That’s why it’s so cold outside. The so called global warming is because at the same time, the Earth is getting closer to the Sun, as the Sun orbits the Earth. You don’t actually ‘believe’ the nonsense of the Earth going around the Sun, do you? I mean any fool can clearly see that it’s the Sun that moves across the sky, as the Earth stands still. All scientists are frauds ! CO2 is our friend! It makes plants grow. Anyway, we know that mere humans cannot affect the Earth in anyway. Heck, if we just pray real hard, maybe god will ‘create’ a new planet without ‘libs’.

Question by gws35: Why are people so dismissive of Al Gore, when for 8 years he was one cheeseburger away from the presidency?

All it would have taken is one cheeseburger clogged artery, coupled with a bit of physical overexertion during an illicit romantic rendezvous, and bingo, Al Gore would have been the president.

It kind of makes you want to take his opinion just a little more seriously, doesn’t it?

I am doing a geography project and would like to find out how using energy such as electricity connected to climate change and how could this affect people? if anyone could help then please do, and also I would like to include long term and short term effects of climate change.
any help/advice things to point me in the right direction would be great.

    Answer by herbie7754
Producing energy using carbon fuels like coal, oil or gas, produces an enormous amount of carbon dioxide as a waste gas.
This is a greenhouse gas, that means, in then air it tends to retain heat in the atmosphere, not letting it escape into outer space.
More CO2 = higher temperature of the atmosphere and the oceans.
