Question by Reality check: What will it take to get people to use alternative energy sources?
I need some links answering or discussing this question.
Also what would happen to all the cars if we made the jump to alternative energy? could our current cars run on it such as natural gas?
Please give me links, I am doing a research project and needs links that I can research into not peoples answers. I’m having trouble finding any links to these that’s why I’m posting this in case anyone knows a reliable source pertaining to this.
Breath it is a research project that is why I asked for links not personal answers.Best answer:

If you are looking under alternative energy for a question about how to change peoples mind you need to sharpen your google-fu. The proper subject would be rhetoric, mass marketing, advertising or possibly even political science. Once you understand this subject you will notice that although this discussion receives frequent mentions it is rarely a main theme in alternative energy literature. There is a basic reason for this. It is a matter of perspective. There are two basic camps. There are vested interests who have been doing business in a certain way for several generations. They are a small group, well funded with a clear agenda seeking to control or manipulate mass opinion. Funding can poll markets to determine what is of interest and what is considered “good.” Advertising and paid for “informative” articles will then target what is of interest and considered “good” like “security” or “sex” and hook public opinion and products into these values. From the perspective of this camp there is a great deal of interest in “what it will take to get people…”
And then there are the masses who are unfunded, uncoordinated, with many conflicting goals and often very little social perspective. The masses have individual needs and desires. It takes something special to motivate the masses as a unit.
Sometimes this happens after a war or as a result of a collective shock. But it doesn’t last for decades as it can with vested interests.
What this means is that for the masses to move on a subject like alternative energy sources first the resistance provided by vested interests must be overcome and then a collective sense of purpose should be instilled.
Practically this might mean eliminating all subsidies and a blackout on advertising similar to what was done during the anti smoking campaign…and you can see how effective this has been but it would be a start.
Natural gas may be an alternative fuel for a car but it is not an alternative energy source. It is still a fossil fuel. We are now hearing that the US has huge deposits of natural gas. These have been known for decades but the means to extract it has been considered an environmental disaster. With energy more desperately in demand it is felt that this will be overlooked.
Since it is a “research” project, I would not want to simply do your work for you, but I hope I have suggested some new avenues for exploration.

Solar Energy to 7 Billion People
Filed under Million Green IdeasMar 14
By exploiting the powers of nanotechnology and taking advantage of nontoxic, Earth-abundant materials, Berkeley Lab’s Cyrus Wadia has fabricated new solar cell devices that have the potential to be several orders of magnitude less expensive than conventional solar cells. And, by mastering the chemistry of these materials—and the economics of solar energy—he envisions bringing electricity to the 1.2 billion people now living without it. Is Al Gore more important than other people? Why does he get to pollute the environment more than others?
Filed under Million Green IdeasMar 11Question by Norm DeGuere: Is Al Gore more important than other people? Why does he get to pollute the environment more than others?
Al Gore gets to fly in a private jet and gets carted around in big cars. He pollutes more than 100 “regular” people. Is this a case of Liberal Elitism (Rosie O’Donnell is against gun ownership for ‘regular’ people, but her body guards are allowed to carry because she is important) or is this a case of the Al Gore ‘Destroying the World in order to Save it’?Opinions?
Best answer:
Answer by Abdul Hassan
Yes, Al Gore shouldn’t be flying around. No, it’s not a case of ‘liberal elitism’, it’s a case of Al Gore Being Rich and Famous. It definitely doesn’t mean that because he takes a private jet, we should ignore all his warnings.Add your own answer in the comments!

Find Work in Your Field
Many graduates are already employed by environmental firms and government agencies in the region. Practitioners in the field and those looking for career changes gain opportunities with the Maryland Department of the Environment, Department of Natural Resources and local and national private environmental companies.http://grad.towson.edu/program/master/envs-brmg-ms/

Question by marceldev29: Why do people claim they know how to stop climate change?
Do they not realize that climate change is a naturally occuring phenomenon? Now after all those times of climate changing over and over again, all of a sudden they know how to stop climate change and all we have to do is to shovel billions of $ $ $ to other countries? This stuff sounds like a wealth redistribiution scam to me.What do we really know about climate change anyway?
It’s much better to work to limit pollution than to go try to stop something that cannot be stopped in the first place.

That’s right, climate change cannot be stopped, it can only be slowed down but unfortunately this very argument is being given by the supporters of fossil fuels.Give your answer to this question below!

Q&A: Any Solar people out there? How can I warm a sunroom that has no heat during the winter?
Filed under Million Green IdeasFeb 5Question by Brigette m: Any Solar people out there? How can I warm a sunroom that has no heat during the winter?
I have a sunroom on a 2nd floor with nothing underneath the room to help keep it heated. My worry is that my plants are not going to survive in the room because it gets very cold in the winter even though it is enclosed totally by windows. Somehow I want to keep it warm without having to use a space heater (something that uses alot of electricity). Maybe use solar energy but I don’t know how to set it up.Best answer:
Answer by Don
It’s pretty hard to heat something with solar energy at a time of year when the sun doesn’t shine much. I’m not sure you can do what you want to do here. You may be only able to grow some things year round here, or perhaps for only 9 months, say.Otherwise, to have an energy efficient sun space, requires an insulated floor, ceiling, and preferably east and west walls, too. Only the south side really needs to be glazed – the other sides of a greenhouse bleed off more heat than they gain.

In the face of Environment crisis, should luxury items be banned through draconian laws?
Filed under More Green IdeasAug 10Rolex, Ferrari all luxuries, should be banned? And people trying to breach these laws should be hanged to death in the Times Square. Do you want to further this agenda ?

For example they say people in Africa are dark skinned because the sun is hot there? Yet the hot sun in India (which is as hot) gives the people there a different tone of skin. And next door to them in China they are very light and pale skinned. It does not make sense to me how we could have all spawned from the same place (africa as it is said) and develop such different features. So some clarification would be great. Many thanks

it takes thousands of years. they say that in 100,000 years, most of america will be the same race. a kind of mocha colored skin. also our feet are slowely getting softer and more sensitive due to evolution because everyone wears shoes these days and we don’t need tough feet anymore.
