Lawrence Solomon shares a totally different perspective on the subject of climate change in his new book, the Amazon bestseller The Deniers: The World-Renowned Scientists Who Stood Up Against Global Warming Hysteria, Political Persecution and Fraud (And those who are too fearful to do so). Mr. Solomon is a founder and managing director of Energy Probe Research Foundation and the executive director of Energy Probe. He was instrumental in the founding of the World Rainforest Movement, Friends of the Earth Canada, and Lake Ontario Waterkeeper. Dr. Solomon’s 1996 model for the satellite tolling of roads has been adopted throughout the European Union. He holds patents for toll road technology for the EU, China, Singapore, Hong Kong, Mexico, and Brazil. In this multifaceted segment, we discuss scientific consensus, what it means to be a “denier”, simulations, peer review, carbon dioxide, Al Gore and his mentor Professor Roger Revelle, the climate of fear that permeates climate science, science funding, and toll roads. Join us as we delve deeper into the science and politics of climate change.

Question by zircO: What useful application of microrobots in environmental science?

Let’s imagine very basic robots (a few hundred micrometers in size) with very few sensing and actuating capabilities. Biomedical applications of such microrobots are numerous (drug delivery, non-invasive probes, etc.) For which kind of task in environmental science/engineering they may be useful?

    Best answer:

    Answer by Zerowantuthri
They speculate that these could be useful for cleaning up toxic spills (such as oil spills or other chemicals). The nanobots could be programmed to “eat” the chemical in question.

This is also used sometimes in end-of-the-world scenarios. Self-replicating nanobots could theoretically multiply at a geometric rate. If there is an error in their programming such that they decide vegetation is on the menu they would wipe out earth’s biosphere.

Just in the realm of science fiction now though but interesting to think about.

Question by Rebecca: How to build a solar house for my science project?

We can use a cardboard box, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, etc. Ways to collect as many solar rays as possible. Nothing too fancy or expensive, either! Goal: highest single temperature and highest average temperature. It’s going to be like a competition between the whole class. Please help!

    Best answer:

    Answer by Plainer
Find materials that *collect* light instead of reflect it. That means use black colored items. The aluminum foil could come in handy to somehow try to reflect the rays onto the house…

Question by Angel: What are some schools with good environmental science or ecology graduate programs?

I am looking for a university that has a good graduate program in environmental science or ecology. I live in Virginia and would like to stay on the east coast but I would move just about anywhere for the right program. I don’t know if I will be able to get into UVA so any other suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

    Answer by name
Most of the top schools are on the West Coast, except Yale. However, you should look at U of Georgia and U of Maryland which have good rankings and programs. (links below)

Question by Min: What colleges offer great programs in psychology, accounting, and environmental science?

I prefer excellent colleges with all three majors. If a (not as prevalent) major such as environmental science can’t be found, then something like environmental engineering or studies is okay.

    Best answer:

    Answer by ZenPenguin
UC Berkeley in the the top 5 nationally in all three fields.
