Question by Ruth L: What are the solar panel things on the side of the road?
I live in Chicagoland and along the tollways are poles with what appear to be solar panels attached to them. Usually the pole has 2 panels and if I had to guess, I’d say each is about 2 feet by 1 foot in size. They don’t seem to be near any signs and I haven’t identified a pattern of how they are place (for example, they don’t appear to be place every “x” miles).
What are they?

sometimes they put solar panels near bridges and overpasses…it is connected to a sensor that reads pavement temp in the winter so they can salt it if the bridges ice overKnow better? Leave your own answer in the comments!

I cleaned out my icebox and threw out 3 cartons of eggs, 2 packs of hamburger, a gallon of milk, and some bad orange juice. I had most these things 4 or 5 months.

i hope you recycled containers before i start. basically, the food you could have eaten could have gone to someone else. imagine all of the people like you that wasted all the food sitting in your fridge, lets say 1,000 people. if that food was consumed, replacement food needed to restock shelves wouldn’t be needed as quickly and the places where the food was made wouldn’t have to replace it as fast. it extends the food that we have. i’m not saying a cow would have been saved, i’m saying one cow would go further, so not as many cows would be needed to replace the already slaughtered cows. just think about it, 2 packages of hamburger for 1,000 people, assuming each package held…. 6 patties…. that’s a lot a food that could have gone farther. the other foods aren’t as harmful, but i’m puting a lot of emphasis on cows because they also create a lot of methane gas naturally after they digest their foods which contribute to the greenhouse effect. The areas where the meat comes from, the pastures, a lot of the time they were once sections of forests. there’s just a big unnecessary chain of wasting food, but you shouldn’t feel that bad because things like that occasionally happen. it just shouldn’t be a habit.

Do you believe man commits crime by nature or is he a product of his environment?
Filed under More Green IdeasJul 5My belief is there is no genetic code for evil, we pick up and learn things in the environment we were raised. What’s your opinion?
Best reply by Maria:
It is the way you are raised. The way you are raised determines how you handle situations and the people who commit crimes choose the wrong way to go.
Even if it is due to alchohal or drugs, the person chose to do this and that was the outcome.

I am writing an essay about recycling when I thought: How do trees help and protect our environment?
I do know things they do that help us but what is the main reason it it so important to save trees?
**I am not looking for an answer like “It is the home of animals.” I am looking for an answer that is about trees, for example, save us from the sun’s radiation (it is just an example, do not give me crap if that statement is wrong)**
Best reply by JOHN H:
They remove vast amounts of CO2 from the atmosphere
This reduces the level of global warming (not by as much as marine algae though). They create oxygen which we need.
Some of them contribute to the local climate by adding large quantities of water to the atmosphere (tropical rain forests)- and none of this is crap – honest

We’ve been learning in science lately how human waste and carelessness impacts the environment. It makes me feel so guilty. What are some practical, everyday things I can do?
Best reply by ranger_co_1_75:
The black pill will remove almost all of your imprint, but that is really drastic.
Just don’t knowingly throw away things that can be recycled, don’t encourage the destruction of critical habitat, or support polluting countries like China and India by purchasing Chinese or Indian made products until Chinese and Indian Factories clean up their pollution.

What is a green business mean?
Filed under Green Business IdeasOct 26I am doing a project for school, and the point is to make a local business green. This obviously means economically friendly right? What are some things a business could do to be more “green”.
Best reply by sravana k:
I would answer it in changing the way of currently open business in your locality… for example, you can suggest (in your project) “Proposal to use paper bags instead of plastic bags in local supermarket”. Etc.,
