What negative effects do they have on the environment?
Filed under More Green IdeasJul 5So, formaldehyde, after breaking down in the environment, forms both formic acid and carbon monoxide, correct? Well, that’s what I found but I’m not sure the negative effects these two substances have on the environment. Any help? It would be much appreciated.

Not sure what your question is here but formaldehyde is more toxic then both carbon monoxide and formic acid. Formic acid is harmful in the air but I don’t believe it is significant in soil or water. Further, formic acid is not a by-product of formaldehyde weathering, having an additional hydroxyl radical. Carbon monoxide is similar, but it is not harmful in the air until is gets quite concentrated, and the dangerous concentration of formaldehyde in the air is significantly less. To get some real numbers on the subject go to http://www.cdc.gov/niosh/
