What shoes do I wear in a casual office environment?
Filed under More Green IdeasJul 16I landed a temporary job doing simple data entry for a company, and it’s casual wear (collar shirt, khakis). However, I only have sneakers, so I would have to go out to buy some new shoes today (because I start tomorrow). What sort of shoes would they expect me to wear?
Best reply by Andrea:
Vans or Converse

Loafers or deck shoes. I’d get brown.

Find a pair of cute, inexpensive flats you can slip on easily. They can have a toe cut out, or a strappy heel – but NOT sandals! Stores like Payless offer a huge selection. Get them in a neutral color – a light brown, tan or olive. Black is a good basic but if you are wearing khakis they are too dark.

There are lots of comfortable black shoes that would be ideal for that environment. Some co-workers just wear black basketball shoes (low top), but you’re probably better off going a bit more dressy than that. Check the links below for good examples.
Good luck!

Depends on the company. The dress code at our office is business casual, and some people do wear sneakers (nice clean ones, not the ones you wear for mowing the lawn!). Others wear loafers or dock shoes (with socks!) I alternate between a pair of dark brown walking shoes from New Balance (sneaker styling but less obvious because of the color) and a pair of lace-up shoes from Aravon, because I’m working to overcome some tendonitis in my feet and need good support.
